Lawrence Hincker spent 40 years in corporate and institutional communications including almost three decades as Virginia Tech’s chief communications officer. He instituted a university-wide integrated marketing program and was the architect of its Invent the Future branding program which cemented the university’s reputation as a leading research university and obviated a century of name confusion. He advised four university presidents on strategic organizational communications. He was a reluctant expert in crisis communications and shared lessons around the world in the wake of mass shootings on the campus in April 2007.
