Monica Gomez

Monica Gomez is a Counselor for the Office of Recruitment and Admissions at Northern Virginia Community College. She also teaches College Success Skills course to first year students at the college and is a certified Career Coach in the state of Virginia. Ms. Gomez has 18 years of experience in higher education, in particular working with first-generation and underrepresented student populations. Currently she serves as the primary advisor to a group of talented scholars who have been awarded the Dream.US scholarship to begin their studies at NOVA. Ms. Gomez has also recently curated the new DREAMers page on the NOVA website which serves as a repository of information and resources for this specific population. In addition to the work for the college, Ms. Gomez serves on the board of the Virginia Latino Higher Education Network and the Reston Scholarship Fund as well as on a taskforce for improving outreach and service to undocumented students in the greater DC area.
Ms. Gomez received her Master of Arts degree in Student Development and Counseling from Trinity University-DC. Ms. Gomez has a passion for working with students because of her own experience as a first-generation college student and wishes to give back to the students she serves so they can one day do the same for the next generation of students.
